My most memorable moment

So far, I have really enjoyed Dr. Hunt. I love his humor and his hands on approach to teaching and learning. I admire the summary board strategy using the whiteboards. After every discussion the students write what they have learned and hold the board up for him to assess. I also like the eye opening activity with the three cups that Mrs. Hogue and Mrs. Sarquis used to get the students attention before class. She also used the core of an apple and a nut as a candle demonstration that was awesome because it looked like a candle, but it wasn't. Overall I'm enjoying everything, but I don't like the lecturing style strategy that I have experienced from two presenters. Now I can emphathize with how my students must feel when I'm doing all the talking or talking rapidly.

Week two: PROJECT Mast 5

Week one has passed and I'm home awaiting to drive back in the morning. My plans are to get up at 5:09 a.m. and leave out at 5:30 a.m. I should make it to J State by 7:30 a.m. One of my roommates will not be returning due to death in her family. I will miss working with her each day and also laughing together after class with Nancy. I dont know what to expect this week but hopefully it goes smoothly. I look forward to using my Lab Quest again and working on my unit plans, causes of day and night. The sixth grade teachers who I'm working with will design a three day lesson plan on seasons, tides, day and nights, and phases of the moon. Well it's after ten so I best fall in bed. Later.

Ok. I am an Alcornite, but I must admit Jackson State University Project MAST program for Science teachers is refreshing.  This is my second day and all is well.I have met wonderful people from mostly Mississippi. My room mate is Nancy, and she is a hoot. I never met anyone like her. Her realness and humor is awakening. She teaches high school Biology, and coincidental we are friends with another female teacher who use to work in my district.

So far I have received a Lab Quest yesterday, and it is wonderful. Tonite we will met to explore its many features. Today, we created a blog with Dr. Cooper to share our experiences with Project MAST. I am a little home sick meaning I miss my kids and my daily routines back home. Sleep doesn't come easy in the dorm rooms because I toss and turn all nite after Nancy falls to sleep. I haven't been able to watch the Celtics in the playoff because the cable in my room only gets local channels. The presenter this morning, Mrs. Waltrop, is a seasoned teacher with loads of knowledge about the new Common Core curriculum and Understanding by Design lesson plan templates.

I only expect great things from this program although I thought known could compare to a similar program called ATOMS which I attended at MSU last year with Dr. Barbara Latiner.  Expect me to update regularly with pictures and daily experiences from the program at JSU.  Peace
